Sellers Ranch at Pozo. Two men with shovels and fruit trees. Caption on back: "view from the house of the American river (called locally Salinas) [incorrectly]" Note: On Bureau of Land Management Records the river is shown as the Salinas River with the headwaters very near American Canyon. All old San Luis Obispo County maps show it as the Salinas River. However, all maps show that where the Salinas begins near Avenales that there are two forks. It's possible that one fork was the American River as one parallels American Canyon. I can't find any information though about an American River in San Luis Obispo County. |
